After Ultra Orthodox Counselor Is Convicted, A Man Who Left the Faith Tells of Abuse

A religious counselor in Brooklyn's ultra-orthodox Jewish community was convicted of sexually abusing a girl who came to him for help on Monday.

Nechemya Weberman, 54, a prominent religious counselor in the Brooklyn community, was convicted of repeatedly sexually abusing a young girl who had come to him for help. The accuser, who's now 18, told authorities he abused her repeatedly from the time she was 12 until she was 15.

The trial put the insular ultra Orthodox Jewish community in the spotlight.

We talked with Luzer Twersky, who was raised in the Hasidic community in Borough Park section of Brooklyn. He left the Orthodox community a few years ago. Listen to his interview in the audio below.
